Last Summer, I decided to buy a small juicer on Amazon Prime day, and honestly it was one of the best decisions I have made. I started making juices for me and my family instead of spending $4-6 dollars per bottle from the grocery store. I use fresh fruit every week and it takes me about an hour. I even started selling some to my friends in hopes of encouraging them to eat better and add more natural sugar and energy to their diet. Not only did they enjoy the taste, but I also offer them a student discount, making it more affordable than the ones sold at the grocery store or juice bars.
Below you can read some of my favorite juice, smoothie, and detox recipes that I frequently use. Every juice I make is targeted to help certain illnesses and issues that most people may struggle with. These recipes can help you fill in any of the blanks in your daily diet that you may be missing.
The great thing about juicing is you don't actually need a juicer. Although they are not super expensive a good juicer can be above $50, which is a lot, especially as a student. If you are interested in juicing, you can always use a blender and strain it with a cheesecloth, which can range from $2-$5 and some come in packs. You can even double blend with the fiber and drink it as a smoothie. Another great option is to boil fruit and vegetables on the stove. For more tips on smoothies and juices, comment below.
Perfect Trio Detox
8 oz water
Lemon, pineapple, and ginger-juiced
Blend together
This detox is a great source of vitamin C. It also helps with supporting the immune and digestive system, while eliminating toxins from your body.
Strawberry Flush Detox
Blend together:
8 oz water
Ginger
2 cups whole strawberries
2 Tbsp Agave
2 limes-juiced
Like the "Perfect Trio", this detox has lots of vitamin C. The lime and ginger aid in detoxification and help to cleanse the liver and colon. Other benefits to this recipe are the regulation of blood pressure and balancing the PH in your body.
Mostly Celery Juice
1/2 cucumber
1/2 green apple
1/4 lime
Ginger
8 oz celery
*All items are placed in the juicer or blender and strained
We have all heard that drinking a green juice a day is supposed to be one of the best health hacks, but personally, I DO NOT like the taste of celery juice. It's one of those flavors that stays in my mouth all day long. So, I decided to create a juice that still has the benefits of celery juice, but does not have as strong of a taste. This juice is a great one to start your morning and reset your body. It can help with inflammation and reduce bloating. My favorite thing about this juice is the extra boost of energy!
Immunity Smoothie
1/2 mango
1 banana
2 spears pineapple
1 tsp turmeric
1/2 cup almond milk
This is a really quick smoothie that you can make ahead of time or in the moment. I created this recipe during the peak of COVID to help me and my family keep out immune systems strong. Turmeric alone aids in many health benefits, including improvement of memory and digestion, along with lessening the risk of inflammation and arthritis pain.
Anti-inflammatea Juice
Pineapple rind
2 oranges-cut
3 cinnamon sticks
2 tbsp turmeric
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 lemon-cut
4 thumbs grated ginger
2 apples-cut
A few pinches of black pepper
128 oz water
Put in a pot, bring to a boil, cover with a lid and let simmer
*The longer you let it simmer the stronger the flavors will be
I really love this recipe because the pineapple skin is great for eliminating toxins and when mixed with everything else, although pineapple has its own amount of vitamin C, they bring out even more. I never like to throw away excess fruit or even the rinds because it makes me feel like I am wasting food. This was a great way for me to use all of the fruit. This is a great juice to have when you have any sort of inflammation within the body.
